Don’t wait on the weather.
This is something New Zealand has taught me very quickly. My mood is very dependent on the weather. (Hence why I moved to Southern California) When its gray and rainy outside, I want to sulk and stay in all day and not do a thing.
On the other hand, when the sun is shining, so am I! I moved to Wellington in the middle of winter and it’s cold and windy and rainy. There are so many beautiful and exciting adventures to be had in this incredible country, but when it’s cold and rainy, scaling a mountain and sloshing through mud in a cave doesn’t sound as nice as staying in my warm little flat.
If I did that, I would miss out on so many remarkable opportunities that are literally right at my fingertips and would never experience all New Zealand has to offer. I can’t wait on the weather. I have to go out and do what I want to do to make the most of this once in a lifetime experience.
(These two pictures were taken 100m away from each other 10 minutes apart)
I think the same is true in our lives. If we wait on the weather, or wait for the perfect situation to come around, we won’t get anywhere! The perfect situation doesn’t exist! If you want opportunity, if you want exciting things to happen in your life you have to DO SOMETHING with where you are right now!
Don’t ask for more things when you haven’t used the tools laying right before you. Don’t wish you were somewhere else when you are in the perfect mission field right now. You are planted where you are for a reason. Stop waiting for the perfect day or the perfect timing to come around for you to accomplish your dreams. Go do them now.
Make the most of what you have now and you will get more when you need more. You aren’t in control of situations that happen to you, but you can control how you handle yourself and respond to the situation. My challenge to you is to choose joy. Even when it’s cold and even when it’s rainy. Thank goodness I packed lots of layers because I’m so thrilled to strap up my boots and explore New Zealand even if the weather is sad. Sometimes you have to make your own sunshine.
“Today is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
Love always,
