I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!

#DOSTUFF

I know you all have probably been wondering what in the world I was up to in Chicago, and trust me I’ve been dying to tell you!! It was a combination of…. actually it wasn’t a combination of anything. It was 100%, purely a gift sent from above, a path paved before me. I have to start by saying that because what I experienced is something I could have never got on my own and I don’t deserve the glory.

Last month Kraft Heinz Company Foundation (the ketchup & Mac and Cheese company) reached out to me to invite me and 7 other college bloggers to visit their co-headquarters in Chicago and learn about their commitment to eliminate world hunger.

Did you know 1 in 9 people around the world don’t have enough food to stay nourished?

This really put things into perspective for me when I thought about the times I’ve complained about not getting dessert or can’t decide on which restaurant to go to.

The Kraft Heinz Company Foundation is devoted to making sure everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to reach their full potential. They’ve made it their mission to improve lives and strengthen communities by working to end hunger and malnutrition.

Kraft Heinz started working with Stop Hunger Now in 2013 and created micronutrient packets to include in the meal packages they assemble and send to countries around the world for people who don’t have enough food.

Check this out, these little packets here have all the 19 essential vitamins and minerals you need in a meal, and it’s flavorless! So when people cook the food, they sprinkle this powder on and wah lah!! They have all the nutrients they need.

In addition to this, Kraft Heinz sponsors meal packaging events with Stop Hunger Now all over the country and on college campuses (this is where I come in) !! I was able to take part in one of these meal packaging events at the co-headquarters and experience for myself what it takes to put together these meals.

We packaged 130,000 meals that day!!

Packaging these meals was an absolute blast because as we filled each bag with rice, protein, veggies and micronutrients, I thought about the hearts that would receive them and the souls it would feed.

It was amazing to experience serving with the Kraft Heinz employees, knowing I was making a difference with one of the largest food companies in the world.

One of the cool things about these Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Events is that they are completely run by volunteers. That means you can get involved! The number of meals they’ve packaged over the last year has grown exponentially and I want to see it continue to grow at an even faster rate!!

In a mission to solve this hunger crisis, The Kraft Heinz Company Foundation is raising awareness among college students so they can get involved right on their campuses. How cool would it be to host a meal packaging event at Chapman?! Or your university?! Serving and giving back is something we can all do and when it means putting dinner on someone’s plate who otherwise might not get any food, then it’s even more rewarding.

If you think this is something you want to bring to your university or company, help me spread the word by sharing this post. In a world full of so much darkness, I believe we have to push back with light and The Kraft Heinz Company Foundation is a BIG light, doing just that.

One little flame gives a little light, but when you put 1,000 flames together you have a roaring fire. We are brighter together and if we work as a team, we can set the whole world on fire.

I’m so excited about this campaign and hope it inspires something inside of you to do something about world hunger. You know how good you feel after a big delicious dinner? The power to give that feeling to someone else who doesn’t have access to enough food is in your hands. Isn’t that exciting?! What will you do with it?

I want to extend my sincerest thanks to my new friends at The Kraft Heinz Company Foundation and Stop Hunger Now for affording me the opportunity to take part in this event and learn more about your mission. I’m so blessed to have been surrounded by so many people with the biggest hearts I’ve met for serving others.

You all are literally changing the world for the better and have inspired me to love well and serve more as I #DoStuff. I will cherish the memories I made in Chicago and hold them close to my heart for as long as I can.

In the meantime I continue to pray that this mission would prosper, the packaged meals would multiply and increase 10fold and that those of us who have been blessed to eat every day would step out in faith and be part of something that is bigger than themselves.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” -Matthew 25:35-36
