I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!

#DOSTUFF

Okay, at the beginning of this year I gave y’all a promise that everything you were going to get from me was going to be real. So it’s about to get real.

Pizza is probably one of my least favorite foods. I know. I’m crazy. I just don’t really like it! I’ll admit, sometimes I do crave it and then I’ll go out of my way to go to one of the little hipster shops where you can make your own and add whatever toppings you like. I get all excited about it and then when I eat it, I don’t like it. I’m never satisfied.

So a while ago, I wrote off pizza thinking it just wasn’t for me. Until I got to Italy… Y’all the pizza here is THE REAL DEAL. I don’t even know how to begin to describe it but, it has made such an impact on my experience here that I decided to dedicate an entire blog post to just pizza and the 0nes that made their way to my belly this trip.

Are you excited? I am.

1) THE PIZZA WITH THE TRUFFFLES

The first lunch I had in Florence I ate this bad boy. Funghi e Prosciutto with truffle. YUM. I know it looks huge but this crust was really thin and everything is so fresh, you can eat the whole thing and not feel like you are about to die like you would eating one this size in the states.

Truffle (and cheese) is way more abundant here so you can get it for really cheap!! I’m eating that up (literally) because you can guarantee anything in the states that includes truffle anything is going to be way more expensive than anything else on the menu.

2) THE PIZZA WITH THE GUSTA

Ahhhh my favorite. I have a few friends who studied abroad in Florence and amongst all of their recommendations (thanks gals) the one that was a consistent winner across the board was Gusta Pizza. So I had to go of course. Here you can get pizza in the shape of a heart!!!

I’m not even joking you this is the best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life and the sole reason why I think I’m never going to be able to eat a pizza in America again. (Unless Gusta Pizza wants to give me their dough recipe;)

This plate of heaven contains the most warm, soft, fresh, fluffy crust my tongue has ever touched. Add some fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, arugula, cherry tomatoes and parmesan and you have a winner. BAM. Gusta Pizza.

3) THE PIZZA WITH THE OCEAN

In Rome I decided to be a little bit adventurous and order the shrimp and truffle pizza, not thinking I would get the whole ocean on my plate!!

Not gonna lie, this one freaked me out a little bit, but the taste was still incredible! Just not so sure how I feel about my pizza having eyes.

4) THE PIZZA WITH THE CALZONE

Our second night in Rome, my friends and I went to a cute little restaurant expecting a good meal, not expecting our taste buds to go on a culinary trip around the world!!

This, my friends, is 1/2 a calzone and 1/2 a pizza. Inside the calzone is gorgonzola cheese, some kind of sausage and mushrooms and then the pizza is tomatoes, mozzarella and basil! Oh and the crust will knock you flat in the first bite. Practically the same as gusta pizza’s crust, so see the first pizza to know what I’m talking about.

5) THE PIZZA WITH THE COMA

After I had that calzone I was hooked and had to try it again. The next day I found a calzone stuffed with mozzarella, mushrooms and prosciutto and it was FINE. Look at that pillow of heaven just sitting on that plate!

So I have to admit, pizza has taken a very special piece of my heart, and my stomach and I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. Thank you Italy for making me love pizza.
