So you jumped off the plane, here you are for the first time, look to your right and you SEE THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN. OMG can you go?!?! Yes. The answer is yes. And I’m going to help you get there.
There’s a lot of conflicting information out there on how to hike to the Hollywood sign and last year, the popular Beachwood Drive gate, which was a popular entrance site was closed by the city. Cue mass chaos and confusion to everyone trying to get to the iconic landmark.
Well I’m here to clear things up!! There are actually a few ways to get to the top of the Hollywood sign but I’m going to give you two of the most common.
Hollyridge Trail via Canyon Drive
6 miles round trip
Hollyridge Trail is the main trail that you think of when you think of hiking to the Hollywood sign. It’s the trail that used to be accessed via Beachwood Canyon. Even though that gate has been closed, you can still access the trail via Canyon Drive to the east and there’s even a little parking lot. From there, there’s a narrow, but steep trail up to Hollyridge.
Brush Canyon Trail via Canyon Drive
6.5 miles round trip
A more roundabout, laid-back option is through Brush Canyon Trail. Walk up Canyon Drive until it turns into a dirt road. When you hit Mulholland Trail, swing left towards the Hollywood sign and enjoy a relaxing walk to the top.
Like I said, there are plenty of other ways to get to the top, but these are the two I am familiar with, but whichever route you take, you will end up with an incredible view of an incredible city.
