20 pictures to convince you to go to Burano, Italy

By January 11, 2017 4 Comments

Last weekend, my friend Paige and I put on our adventure pants and hit the water taxi to venture off to a little land we heard would be colorful. Little did we know we were about to step foot onto the cutest little island that looks like a bag of skittles exploded all over it.

The little island of Burano is one of the top 10 most colorful cities in the world and rightfully so!! I felt like I was walking around in a storybook.

We got there early enough in the morning that no one was on the island yet. I mean no one. Being some of the only people on the island made the experience that much more amazing because we were able to roam the sidewalks and stroll through the alleys without feeling like we were just one of many tourists.

It was such a stark contrast to go from the hustle and bustle of the city to an almost silent little town, but each building screamed loud enough with it’s colorful walls to make up for it.

Burano is also famous for their needle point lace so we went into so many shops that had the most beautiful lace!
As I did a little digging, I learned that mostly fishermen used to live in Burano and they painted their houses bright colors so they could see them better when they came in from sea. Maybe I can convince my future husband to go for bright orange. 😉

If you are ever visiting Venice, Burano is definitely worth the extra trip! I’m so glad I went!! I’ll be quiet now and let you look at the pictures I took of this cute little town! 🙂 Thanks for reading!
