Throughout my travels, I’ve had my fair share of ice cream and it just occurred to me that out of every where I’ve been a majority of my favorites are in Southern California.
1. Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop
Hands down favorite, always has been and always will be.
Here’s my go-to: SeaSalt Caramel Sundae except get one scoop vanilla, one scoop butter pecan with dark chocolate fudge instead of milk chocolate fudge and all of it in a chocolate dipped waffle bowl.
I usually always frequented the Ghirardelli in Disneyland but luckily if you don’t have a pass there’s one in Hollywood and San Diego!!
2. Creamistry
Liquid Nitrogen ice cream is all the craze these days and I am a BIG FAN. The ice cream is so fresh, creamy and delicious because they make it right when you order it. Creamistry lets you customize your entire order creating your own flavor and choosing your custom toppings.
They mix it all in a kitchen aid and throw some liquid nitrogen in there which freezes it instantly and wah lah!! you have your ice cream masterpiece. These types of places are fun because the steam looks like a science experiment so if you have little ones, they would love this!
Here’s my go-to: Cookie butter with brownies mixed in
3. Salt and Straw
This heavenly ice cream shop is from Portland but it’s so dang good they have 4 in Cali and even one in Seattle! (Praises) I love Salt and Straw’s vibe and quirkiness.
Their flavors are bold but really good quality. Some hipster ice cream places try too hard making weird flavors but Salt and Straw nails it and doesn’t sacrifice taste for the sake of being unique. Their seasonal flavors switch quite frequently and on this trip I had the peach crumble and almond brittle salted ganache. I went back a couple days later and got salted caramel cookie dough and the elvis, which was a banana custard with peanut butter cookie dough and huckleberry jam!! AH. SO DELICIOUS
4. Sprinkles
Sprinkles started as a cupcake shop but added ice cream which I think was the smartest move ever. Their ice cream is equally as good as their cupcakes so if you can’t decide you can get a sprinkles sundae and they’ll cut a cupcake in half and put your ice cream in the middle. HELLO. game changer.
But y’all they’re cookies are good too!! you can even do a cookie sandwich or a cookie sundae. Their flavors also change every day but really you can’t go wrong because everything there fell from Heaven. When I went in Beverly Hills the workers gave me my entire order for free so I think they fell from Heaven too.
Here’s my go-to: Dark Chocolate Ice Cream, Smores Cupcake or Pumpkin Cupcake, and Salted Caramel Oatmeal Cookie with Cornflakes!
5. Cauldron
If Salt and Straw and Creamistry had a baby it would be Cauldron. It’s liquid nitrogen ice cream but they have predetermined combinations and “flavors” you can choose from. Their famous for their puffle cone which tastes kind of like a soft bread-like waffle cone. When you order, ask for them to make it into a rose for an ice cream flower!! There’s also always a line out the door here so plan accordingly.
Where are your favorite ice cream places?? Did I miss any? Are you from somewhere cool that has really good ice cream?! If so, let me know and I’ll try to make a trip out there to give it a try!
