I’m really bad at resting. I hate taking time to “chill” because I feel so wasteful and can’t stop running through my list of ‘things to do’ that I’m getting behind on by resting. Who can relate?!
Rest is a foreign concept in our country because society tells you if you’re not doing something you’re falling behind and won’t be successful. The fast pace of our busy world doesn’t allow for breaks and when we do take time to rest, we’re filled with anxiety about all the things we have to do.
We’ve created a culture that only allows rest at the expense of our career and as a result, we have a nation of people burnt out, dried up and just down right tired. I’ve lived this situation more times than I’d like to admit and let me tell you we were not meant live life half empty. We were meant to live life FULL. Better yet, OVERFLOWING.
Rest is not a bad thing, in fact, God created it and practices it Himself! If He takes time to rest, how much more do you think we need to take the time to rest?
In Genesis 2:2-3 it says rest is blessed and rest is holy. Making rest a priority every week is something we need to do in order to keep the fire burning. If you don’t charge up, you’ll die out and the only way to refuel is if you rest.
Don’t let guilt and anxiety rob you of fully experiencing the benefits of rest. They will try to make you feel like you’re wasting your time, but it’s a lie.
God sees your heart, will honor your rest and multiply your time and productivity because of it.
Your list can wait; take care of your heart.
Think of 2 ways you can incorporate rest into your schedule this week and then make them a priority! Write them down in your planner or put them into your calendar if you have to. Maybe its taking a 20 minute bath or getting a massage. Maybe it’s just taking 5 minutes to be still and close your eyes. Whatever it is that you need, make it happen this week.
This week I’m going to do some yoga and watch a Christmas movie!
Do you struggle with resting too? Let me know in the comments of my last Instagram post and tag someone you think this message would inspire. Thank you so much for reading today!!
