Ghirardelli Ice Cream Sundae Breakdown

My Ghirardelli obsession began in high school when my sister got me a little tin of chocolate squares for Valentines Day and I thought they were the best thing. I thought for sure they fell from Heaven.

I went on to start a Ghirardelli Chocolate Square collection, I gave them out to students at school, included them in presents and even started an Instagram account called @GhirardelliGirl.
If that’s not enough to convince you of my deep love for this chocolate, in 2013 I emceed one of the demo stages at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival in San Fransisco. Easily one of the best days of my life. It’s on my bucket list to go to every single Ghirardelli shop in the country!

Living 12 minutes from the one in Anaheim provided lots of opportunities for me to test, try and experiment more combinations of ice cream and topping than you can possibly imagine and at one point the workers started to recognize me!!

I’m not sure if I’m proud or embarrassed to say I’ve had every single sundae on the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Menu, but how can you be the Ghirardelli Girl without having experienced them all?!

I agree, looking at their menu can be overwhelming because everything looks fantastic (and it is, I recommend ordering one of everything if you can) but if you are only going to choose one, I’ve got to make sure you have the inside scoop and all the trade secrets that go into making the perfect sundae.
Here is my Sundae Breakdown

Brownie Sundae: Classic. So good and definitely hits the spot. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream, milk chocolate fudge, and half of their decadent brownie on the top with whip cream and a cherry. My mom loves this one!!

Midnight Reverie: This one is for all my chocolate lovers out there!! 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate fudge, mini chocolate chips, whip cream and a 70% dark chocolate square on the top. YUM. I love this one, but sometimes all that chocolate is too intense so I balance it out by getting one scoop chocolate, one scoop cookies and cream! THE BEST HACK EVER.

ALL TIME FAVORITE SUNDAE OF ALL TIME!! This one is my go-to, are you ready?!?!
Sea Salt Sundae: This sundae is the perfect balance of chocolate and caramel and if you like their SeaSalt caramel squares then you will LOVE this sundae. It’s alright the way they have it on the menu but if you want a really magical experience and want to jazz it up, here are my suggestions:
  • One scoop vanilla, one scoop butter pecan
  • Dark Chocolate instead of Milk Chocolate Fudge
  • In a Chocolate Dipped Waffle Bowl !!

I promise you won’t be sorry you ordered this and if you are I will personally fly to your house and make you the most amazing ice cream sundae in the world.
I’ve had this one a few times…;)

BONUS: This one’s not a sundae but it’s one of my favorite seasonal treats. In the fall Ghirardelli has a Pumpkin Spice Milkshake and its lovely. Mostly because they put their Pumpkin Spice Caramel square on the top, but this drink is only for a limited time only so get it when you can!

Also: if ice cream is not your jam, 1) who are you? 2) that’s okay because their cookies are BOMB. I almost love them as much as I love their ice cream, which is saying a lot so definitely give those a try. However on my most recent trip to Disneyland I noticed they changed their cookies and they are not as poofy as they used to be. I don’t know if they taste the same so I can’t vouch for their goodness anymore. Someone let me know! (They used to have a cookie bottom sundae where they put a scoop of ice cream on half a cookie with fudge and whip cream, Even though it’s technically not on the menu you could still ask them to do it and they might if you flutter your eyelashes and ask really nicely.

Also also, they have FABULOUS coffee and hot chocolate. Try their salted caramel hot chocolate!
I come up with my best ideas while eating ice cream and writing this blog is reminding me of all the fun times I had at Ghirardelli and all the good ideas that resulted of the massive amounts of ice cream I ate there.

I hope this blog helps you in your decision making next time you go to Ghirardelli. Take lots of pictures and tag me in them so I can see your beautiful sundaes and beaming faces while eating them!!
Thanks for joining me today!
Love always,
