When you’re watching a movie, don’t you sometimes wish you could just jump through the screen and plop yourself in the middle of their world? I always thought it would be cool to do that in a fantasy whimsical world like Middle Earth in The Lord of the Rings.
Then I moved to New Zealand and realized the whole country is pretty much Middle Earth.
It’s no surprise Peter Jackson filmed The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies here because the lush, rolling green hills, steep, snow capped mountains and quirky looking foliage make a perfect set for this fantasy world.
Pretty much the whole country was used for filming and many of the locations you can get to easily and explore for free, but my favorite and the most popular is Hobbiton in Matta Matta; better known as The Shire and The Dell.
Take a look at these stunning pictures and then let me know when you’re ready to start planning your trip. 😉 P.S. I took all these pics… I know I know they don’t look real, but that’s because New Zealand is out of this world!!
