Kiwi Passionfruit Smoothie Bowl

If there is one place that completely captured my heart during college it is New Zealand. I had the opportunity to study abroad there and fell in love instantly with the stunning landscapes, the kind hearted people, and the deep and beautiful traditions of Māori culture. It is a place that left a lasting impression on me in a way that very few places have and I think about it often. The travel tab has all my New Zealand pictures and guides if you want to see everything but today I am bringing a little piece of it into the kitchen.

This kiwi passionfruit smoothie bowl is bursting with tropical flavor and bright tangy goodness that feels like the vibrant, alive energy of New Zealand in a bowl. Frozen kiwi and passionfruit blended together into the most beautiful creamy green base that is refreshing and naturally sweet with that signature tartness that makes kiwi and passionfruit such a perfect combination. Four ingredients and about three minutes in a blender and you have the most stunning breakfast bowl that looks like it took serious effort and required almost none.

The toppings are where this bowl becomes a full tribute to New Zealand. Fresh kiwi slices fanned across the top, scooped passion fruit for extra tropical flavor, and golden drizzles of Manuka honey which is one of New Zealand’s most famous and beloved exports and tastes entirely different from regular honey in the most incredible way. Then I spelled out kia ora using slices of dragon fruit across the bowl. Kia ora is a Māori greeting meaning be well or hello and it felt like the right way to honor a culture and a country that gave me so much during my time there. It is one of my favorite finishing touches I have ever done on a smoothie bowl.

Whether you have been to New Zealand or are simply dreaming of the day you will, this bowl is a nourishing and beautiful little tribute to the Land of the Long White Cloud. Make it on a summer morning when you want your breakfast to feel like a little adventure, top it generously, and eat it somewhere with good light because it genuinely deserves to be photographed before you dig in.
