Whether you’re coming from around the world or just down the road, there’s no doubt there’s something magical about a trip to Los Angeles. As you walk the star studded streets of Hollywood you can feel the energy and buzz from Tinseltown and you might even bump into some of your favorite celebrities!
One of the best ways to get an inside look at how your favorite movies are made is to spend a day at Universal Studios Hollywood. This vibrant theme park sits atop a hill overlooking Laurel Canyon and the famous Hollywood Hills.
If you’ve never been to Universal and are a little unsure of what to expect, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Here are my tips for how you can spend a day in the park!
Start your morning with breakfast at Lard Lad Donuts. Who doesn’t love donuts?! This is going to be a whole day of treating yourself so you might as well start out with one of these sweet circular treats.
Dance around Super Silly Fun Land and see if you can win a fluffy unicorn at the carnival games! (the Silly Swirly Fun Ride is underrated and actually a ton of fun)
Hang out with Gru and the Minions over at Minion Mayhem. Fun Fact: All the character voices in the attraction were performed by the same actors who performed those roles in Despicable Me.
{Pro Tip: Don’t want to wait in lines? Consider buying or upgrading your ticket to the Universal Express ticket for priority seating at shows and express access to rides all day long!}
Go behind the scenes and learn how all your favorite movies are made on the famous backlot Studio Tour. This tour takes about an hour so make sure you plan accordingly. You can bring food on this tour so maybe pack a snack or bring your lunch to kill two birds with one stone and save time!
Head to the Lower Lot for some thrills on Jurassic Park – The Ride. Don’t forget to take a picture of the gorgeous view on your way down the escalator!
{Pro Tip: bring your phone charger! Starbucks in the upper lot has plenty of outlets for you to charge up and if you forgot one, Guest Relations has some you can borrow.}
Step into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and get ready for a magical afternoon. Fly with Harry Ron and Hermoine through Hogwarts on “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” and find your perfect wand at Olivander’s Wand Shop.
Don’t forget to grab a mighty mug of Butter Beer before you leave!
{Pro Tip: If you buy your tickets online you can get into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and hour before the park opens meaning you get to be the first to experience Hogsmede!!}
See a show! From jumping jet skiers, a cappella singing frogs and stunt actors that show you the secrets behind some of Hollywood’s best special effects, the shows at Universal are a must see.
{Pro Tip: Download the Universal Studios Hollywood App for all kinds of info like wait times, itinerary builders, character meet and greets and notifications when lines get low!}
End your night with dinner and a stroll through City Walk. My favorites are Saddle Ranch Chop House or Bubba Gumps! The bright lights and fun music make the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a lively evening celebrating all the fun you had in the park.
Whether you’re seeking a thrill and adventure or entertainment and behind the scenes peeks of your favorite movies, the red carpet is rolled out and Universal Studios Hollywood is ready for you!! Have fun!
