As intentional as I am to live a healthy lifestyle, there are some days where I really don’t want to go to the gym and no amount of convincing will get me out of my apartment and on the treadmill. Especially in this season when my warm bed is much more appealing than the cold, rainy outdoors.
I wish sometimes you could just stay fit and not have to work so hard to maintain a body that’s strong and in shape. Anyone else?!? However… I’ve learned that without exercise and proper nutrition, those cookies and ice cream cones do in fact catch up to you and you won’t get any stronger by not exercising.
So as I begrudgingly dragged myself to the gym I realized that this scenario is just as true for our faith.
People always want bigger faith, but they do nothing to make it grow. The only way to grow your faith is if you exercise it. You won’t get bigger muscles by thinking about going to the gym or reading about working out; you actually have to go into the gym, pick up the weights and put in the work.
Same goes for your faith. You have to exercise your little faith muscles regularly to get them to grow. One of the most practical ways to do this is to TRY HARDER THINGS!! Ask God for bigger things and try something you know is outside your capabilities. Where is the faith in doing something you already know you can accomplish on your own?
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” -2Corinthians 5:7
“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” -James 1:6
As you start to train your faith muscles, be patient. Just like you won’t be ripped after one training session, you won’t get enormous faith overnight. You’re not expected to run a marathon when you first learn to walk. You start by crawling, then you take a few steps, then you run.
In faith, you start by removing pebbles from your shoes, then rocks from the path of life until eventually, you move a mountain.
“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Matthew 17:20
You get stronger when you push yourself beyond the limits of your normal expectation so if you want to have bigger faith, you need to attempt bigger things. We have a big God who’s looking for people with big faith to do big things in. Don’t let fear of failing keep you from taking the leap. TODAY IS THE DAY!
Thank you so much for reading today! I hope you were encouraged. I’m praying for you to have the courage to take the first step in exercising your faith muscles! This is one of my new favorite workout outfits from Chic River. They have so many cute, colorful yoga pants and tops on their site and I am loving how vibrant these leggings are. Don’t they just look like a sunset on my legs?! Definitely check them out because I know you’ll find a cute pair for yourself!

Beautiful post! So true though… Our faith is strengthened through God’s grace, in pursuing His word and will for our lives. We cannot expect a miracle overnight, but have to be diligent towards strengthening our physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional wellbeing by faith, prayer, and encouragement from Christ.
Thank you for the encouragement!
