A few years ago I went duck pin bowling with Chandler and his family, and somewhere between the bumpers and the scorekeeping, my entire focus shifted to the snack mix they were handing out for free at the counter. I am not exaggerating when I say it might as well have fallen straight from the heavens. It was salty, buttery, ranchy, and completely addictive in a way that made it very hard to care about my bowling score. I knew the second I got home I had to figure out how to recreate it.
After a little trial and error in the kitchen, I landed on this version and honestly I think it might even be better than the original. The base is a mix of Chex cereal, goldfish crackers, oyster crackers, and pretzels, which gives you the most satisfying combination of textures in every single handful. Some bites are crunchy, some are a little airy, some have that perfect pretzel chew, and all of it is coated in a buttery, herby ranch seasoning blend that ties everything together beautifully.
The best part about this recipe is how low effort it actually is. You toss everything together, coat it in the seasoning mixture, spread it on a baking sheet, and let the oven do the rest. The baking step is what takes it from good to great because it toasts everything just enough to bring out a deep, savory flavor and lock in that crunch. Your whole house is going to smell incredible while it bakes, which is honestly half the fun.
This snack mix is one of those things that works for every occasion. Game day, holiday gatherings, road trips, movie nights, a neighborhood get together, or just a bowl sitting on the counter that slowly disappears throughout the week. Make a big batch because it goes fast, and do not say I didn’t warn you.
