I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!

#DOSTUFF

There is a bowl of this sweet and salty snack mix on my counter right now and it has been there for three days and it keeps somehow getting smaller even though I am fairly certain I have not been snacking on it that much. That is the thing about this mix. It just disappears. Honey Chex, Cheez-Its, mini pretzels, and oyster crackers tossed in melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, parsley, and parmesan cheese and toasted in the oven until golden and perfectly seasoned. Every handful has a different combination and every single one of them is exactly right.

The seasoning blend is what makes this snack mix so much more interesting than the standard party mix. Ground mustard is the ingredient that sounds unexpected and is absolutely essential. It adds this subtle savory depth that you cannot quite put your finger on but would immediately notice if it was missing. Combined with the garlic, onion, parsley, and parmesan it creates a coating that tastes like something from a really good artisan snack brand and costs almost nothing to make at home with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.

The honey Chex is what brings the sweet to the sweet and salty situation and it does it so well. That light honey sweetness against the savory cheesy seasoning and the salty pretzels and Cheez-Its is the combination that makes this completely addictive in the most satisfying way. Twenty minutes in the oven at 325 degrees lets everything toast slowly and evenly so the butter absorbs into every piece and the parmesan gets slightly golden and nutty and the whole mix comes out of the oven smelling like the best thing you have ever made for a snack.

Let it cool completely on the pan before you transfer it to an airtight container and it keeps for up to two weeks on the counter which means one batch is snacking handled for the whole week. It is perfect for road trips, movie nights, kids afterschool snacking, a party spread, or just having something interesting and satisfying to reach for in the afternoon. Make it once and it becomes the snack mix you make on repeat.
