Tru Fru has a chokehold on so many of us and I completely understand why. That combination of frozen fruit, creamy yogurt, and chocolate is genuinely one of the best flavor and texture combinations out there. But have you seen the price of a bag lately? I started making these at home and the difference in cost alone was enough to make this a permanent fixture in our freezer. Same concept, real ingredients you can actually read, and honestly even better because you can customize exactly what goes in them.

These chocolate covered froyo fruit bites are clusters of chopped strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries drizzled with greek yogurt and melted dark chocolate then frozen into the most satisfying little bites. The greek yogurt adds a creamy tangy layer that works so well with the bright fresh berries underneath, and the dark chocolate shell on top brings everything together in the best way. Every cluster is a little different which is part of what makes them so fun to eat. No two bites are exactly the same and that is perfectly fine with me.

The technique is genuinely as simple as it gets. Chop your strawberries, scatter all three berries onto a lined baking sheet in little clusters, drizzle greek yogurt over each one, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top, and freeze for at least two hours until completely set. The hardest part is waiting for them to freeze and even that is not that hard when you know what is coming. Pull them off the tray and store them in an airtight container in the freezer and you have a nourishing, satisfying snack ready to grab all week long.
Willa loves these straight from the freezer and so does everyone else who has ever tried them. They are nutrient dense, packed with antioxidants from the berries, protein from the greek yogurt, and that dark chocolate drizzle makes them feel like a real treat every single time. The homemade Tru Fru that costs a fraction of the price and tastes just as good. Make a big batch this week and keep them stocked all summer long.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- This is a homemade Tru Fru copycat that costs a fraction of the price and tastes just as good if not better because you control exactly what goes into every single bite
- Three ingredients and ten minutes of hands on work gives you a freezer full of nourishing satisfying snacks that are ready to grab all week long without any additional effort after the initial prep
- The combination of fresh berries, creamy greek yogurt, and dark chocolate creates a snack that hits every craving at once โ sweet, tart, creamy, and crunchy all in one frozen bite
- These are completely kid approved which means one batch covers the whole family for snacking and everyone feels great about what they are eating
Key Ingredients:
- Fresh strawberries: Chopped into similar sized pieces so they freeze evenly and every cluster has a consistent amount of fruit throughout. Fresh strawberries have the best flavor and texture for this recipe and release just enough juice to help everything cluster together on the baking sheet
- Blueberries and raspberries: Added whole alongside the strawberries for different textures, flavors, and colors in every cluster. The mix of all three berries gives you a variety that makes each bite slightly different and keeps the whole batch interesting
- Greek yogurt: Drizzled over the berry clusters in a thin stream so it coats everything and freezes into that creamy tangy layer between the fruit and the chocolate. Full fat greek yogurt gives you the richest, creamiest result and the best flavor after freezing
- Dark chocolate chips: Melted with a tiny splash of coconut oil for a thin, smooth, pourable chocolate coating that sets up with a satisfying snap over the frozen greek yogurt layer. Dark chocolate pairs with the tart berries in a way that milk chocolate simply does not
Tips for Success:
- Scatter the berries in small natural clusters on the baking sheet rather than in neat organized piles. The clusters form more naturally and look more beautiful when they are slightly irregular and varied in size
- Drizzle the greek yogurt first and let it freeze for at least thirty minutes before the chocolate goes on so the layers stay distinct and the yogurt does not blend into the chocolate during drizzling
- Add the coconut oil to the chocolate before melting so it is smooth and pourable from the start. Chocolate without coconut oil can be too thick to drizzle thinly over frozen clusters and the coconut oil also helps the chocolate set up with a better snap
- Work quickly when drizzling both the yogurt and the chocolate so they go on while the tray is still cold and set up fast rather than pooling and spreading off the clusters
Storage:
Store chocolate covered froyo fruit bites in an airtight container or zip lock bag in the freezer for up to three months. Once they are completely frozen and set transfer them from the baking sheet into a container with parchment between layers so they do not stick together. Eat them directly from the freezer. They do not need any thaw time and are best enjoyed cold and frozen for the best texture and that satisfying chocolate snap.
FAQ:
Can I use frozen berries instead of fresh?
Fresh berries are strongly recommended here because they have better flavor, firmer texture, and the right amount of moisture to help the clusters hold together on the baking sheet. Frozen berries release too much liquid as they thaw and can make the clusters spread out and flat rather than holding their shape. If fresh berries are not available thaw frozen ones completely, drain thoroughly, and pat completely dry before using.
Can I use regular yogurt instead of greek yogurt?
Greek yogurt is strongly recommended because it is thick enough to drizzle in a controlled way and freezes into a creamy layer that holds up well. Regular yogurt is too thin and will spread off the clusters rather than coating them. If you only have regular yogurt strain it through a cheesecloth for thirty minutes to remove excess liquid and thicken it before using.
Can I use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate?
Yes and the result is sweeter and creamier which some people prefer. Dark chocolate is recommended because the slight bitterness balances the sweetness of the berries and yogurt in a way that creates a more complex and satisfying flavor. Semi sweet chocolate is a great middle ground if you want something between dark and milk chocolate in sweetness level.
